I have discovered some differences between a political debate and a lunatic asylum. Now I know that most people don’t think there are any differences, but there are at least three!

I.  Patients in a mental hospital are nicer to each other than politicians are.

II.  With rare exceptions, patients in a mental hospital are more concerned about what’s wrong with them than what’s wrong with somebody else. For instance, I can remember hearing many mental health patients talk about their own problems. I have never heard this from a politician.

III.  The nonsense in a mental hospital is so obvious that nobody pays any attention to it, whereas many people actually believe some of the nonsense that politicians put forth.
